Commission on Aging

There will be a meeting of the Commission on Aging onThursday, May 12, in the multipurpose facility from 1:30 to 3 p.m.The meeting will be held in conjunction with the Senior Regional Collaboration Network with guest speakers from the Braille Institute. Topics will be eye health and fall prevention.

Mother’s Day celebration

The center will celebrate Mother’s Day on May 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.This year’s theme is Hats Off to Moms. The event will feature a Parade of Hats, with prizes for the most outrageous and colorful.There will also be a hat show featuring the work of the center’s millinery class. Ella Mae’s Cuisine will provide lunch. Cost to attend is $10. Get tickets at the front desk.

Strawberry festival

The center will take a trip to Oxnard for the 28th Annual California Strawberry Festival on May 14. Buses will leave from Gonzalez Park, 1007W. Cressey, at 9 a.m. and return at 5 p.m.The event offers gourmet food and wine, arts and crafts, and musical entertainment (everything from jazz to big band sounds) on three different stages, as well as strolling musicians. Cost is $10. Limited to 40 passengers.

Scholarship meeting

There will be a meeting of Scholarship Committee members on May 16 at 1 p.m. Recipients for this year’s Senior Citizens’Scholarship will be chosen.

Central Coast trip

A trip to Morro Bay, San Simeon, Big Sur and Carmel is scheduled for May 17 – 19. It will include a two-night stay at a four-star beachside resort, an afternoon lunch cruise of Morro Bay, a stop at San Simeon to see the sea lions, a welcome dinner in picturesque Cambria Pine Lodge, a lunch at the Tap Room in Pebble Beach, a bonfire with toasted marshmallows, plus a buffet breakfast each morning. Departure will be from Dollarhide on May 17 at 7a.m. It returns May 19 at 7 p.m. The cost is $265 per person for double occupancy. Add $120 for single supplement with a deposit of $50 due at sign-up. Deadline to submit all payments is May 5. There is only space for 40 participants.

Fashion Extravaganza, Luncheon
