Fashion Extravaganza and Luncheon

Senior Health and Fitness Day
Dollarhide will participate in National Senior Health and Fitness Day with a health fair, health screenings, nutritional seminars and events that promote aerobic activity. The event will be held on May 25 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The community is invited to attend.
Scholarship Awards Banquet
The second annual Scholarship Awards Banquet will be held on May 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. Recipients of this year’s scholarships and businesses that have partnered with Dollarhide to provide services for seniors will be honored.
Dollarhide will host a senior social on May 27 from 1 to 4 p.m. The film “Madea’s One Big Happy Family” will be screened and hot dogs will be served. Cost to attend is $2.
Trip to New York
Dollarhide Explorers will take a trip to New York City departing on Oct. 6 and returning on Oct. 10. Accommodations will be at a Midtown Manhattan hotel. Guided sightseeing tour will include Greenwich Village, Rockefeller Center, Radio City Music Hall, Times Square, the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, ground zero and two Broadway shows. Only 35 can go. Cost is $2,299 including round trip airfare for double occupancy and $2,999 for single occupancy.
The Los Angeles Regional Food Bank program will distribute a free food kit once a month. Kits will be distributed on every third Wednesday of the month. The next distribution is set for May 18 between 9 and 11 a.m. Proof of income, Social Security or pension is required.
A new class on bingo is offered every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. in the multipurpose room. Bingo boards will be $1 per board per senior.
Art class meets weekly from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Art helps students exercise their brains and teaches organization and design. Students will learn to develop techniques like shading, blending, scumbling and more. Sign up at front desk.
Ceramics classes are regularly scheduled every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 a.m. to noon. Classes are for beginners through advanced and cover all aspects of the crafts.
Taxi vouchers available now
Taxi vouchers are available for the cost of $10 per booklet. To purchase, you must be 55 or older and must have proof of Compton residency, such as a utility bill, a California driver’s license, identification card, Social Security card or medical card. If disabled, you must be between 18 and 54 years of age with a physician’s verification. For more information or to make an appointment, contact Pamela Coleman at 310-605-5694.
