CHAOS
» David Irons said the new Meals on Wheels representatives wanted to make sure that recipients had microwave ovens and that is bad because they cause thyroid cancer. He is concerned about losing 2,000 senior meals over the next year, and he did not ask the group to take over.
» Lorraine Cervantes said there is a federal order and court mandate to redistrict by Oct. 1, and there are rumors that Council members are trying to influence the lines. She said it is supposed to be non-political and the city will need a consultant. She volunteered to be part of the redistricting committee.
» Eric Perrodin said all politicians, including Cervantes, need to be excluded from the process.
» Craig Cornwell said the redistricting will be completed by September.
» Perrodin said a citizen suggested adding two more districts, and now may be the time to do that.
» Herb Arceneaux said there is a movement underway to impugn Yvonne Arceneaux and him, and Perrodin is aware of the plan to put someone else in Yvonne Arceneaux’s seat. He said he has been in Compton since 1960 and he wants to know who can beat that.
» Perrodin raised his hand.
» Arceneaux said good for him, and he should represent Compton while he serves. He said Perrodin should not sit at the dais and elaborate on redistricting and everyone knows his plans.
» Carolyn Stokes said she is still mad about the Council hiring someone other than Batiste as city manager, and she hopes they do not sign the contract. She asked Bryan Batiste if the city wrote a letter to Danny Bakewell asking for the money he owes the city.
» Batiste said he met with Bakewell, and he said the city owes him money.
» Joyce Kelly said the city uses taxpayer money for Arrowhead water, and when residents turn on their faucets, brown water comes out. She said Yvonne Arceneaux should be the Council leader after 20 years, but instead she lets someone who does not live in her district lead her.
» Lynn Boone said redistricting will take four Council votes. She said adding two more districts is not a good idea at this time, and it should not happen until the Council members live in their districts. She called the IRS about Howard Duffey paying his own PERS benefit, and they told her it is a write off, and he is not doing anyone any favors.
» Cervantes said Victory Outreach church did a lot of work in the city and should be paid for the effort. » Yvonne Arceneaux asked Batiste to call Dr. Kofi Sefa- Boakye to come up and dispel the accusation of a contract offered to Herb Arceneaux for work he did not complete, made by Lynn Boone on Tuesday, June 26.
