El Camino College Compton Center to host “New Student Welcome Day” Aug. 22
COMPTON—El Camino College Compton Center will hold a “New Student Welcome Day” for incoming students on Wednesday, Aug. 22. This orientation is presented to help new students to begin acclimating to college life.
Students will have a chance to tour the campus, meet faculty members and new friends, and become familiar with student services.
Check-in will take place from 8:30 to 9 a.m. in the Tartar gymnasium. A free orientation will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Lunch will also be provided.
Participants will also have a chance to meet with academic advisors; register for classes; get a firsthand account of college life from current students; and visit the student services, academic programs and departments’ showcase.
These workshops and activities are designed to give students who ultimately plan to transfer to a four-year institution the tools they need to prepare for their first day of classes and beyond.
New Student Welcome Day will also offer a workshop specifically for parents.
In addition, students who have already enrolled in ECC Compton Center’s First Year Experience (FYE) program will have an orientation immediately following the conclusion of New Student Welcome Day from 1 to 4 p.m. The FYE program has been effective in helping students to excel in their first year of college by providing a supportive learning community that includes educational and career services.
